I listened to a few cuts from his self-titled 2011 album but nothing really sat with me, yet I knew James Blake was a name to look out for - anywhere. I knew nothing of James Blake except that Kanye had spoken highly of him, he made alternative R&B and he was from the UK and made one of the most creative and interesting (to me) songs entitled “The Wilhelm Scream”, I then listened to a song of his that featured an artist I know, Chance The Rapper entitled “Life Round Here”, I was blown away by it.
In the best way possible this album is a gut-wrenching, heart churning and then fulfilling masterpiece. It makes my chest physically hurt, it makes my heart want to drown and it makes my eyes want to close for a long, long time. The Colour In Anything’s beginnings are not a pleasant or easy listen for me. AUTHORS NOTE - This is of course just one man’s point of view and not everyone will recall their exes or past relationships, but for me it connected and resonated with it and her and so my review mostly expands on that aspect for a good portion of it.
